Community

Village Harvest, Otis McAllister, Inc., and its subsidiaries are committed to high quality partners with a sincere pledge to aid in the development of the communities that they serve. We understand the importance of giving back to the people who support our company and its products. We are dedicated to showing our gratitude through our contributions to important social development projects and through fundraising.

We have been actively involved with the California Trade Education Center (CTEC), the California Council for International Trade (CCIT), and the California Chamber of Commerce (CalChamber), in helping to develop domestic and foreign trade policies, as well as working with schools throughout California to bring an understanding to those policies and to develop fresh views and a renewed appreciation for the importance of global trade in the new millennium. Our officers have served on the boards of these organizations in varying capacities, and we have worked for more than fifteen years to raise funds to support these worthwhile non-profit programs.

In July 2005, we joined with Hiper Paiz supermarkets and non-profit organization Potter’s House (Casa Alfarero) to raise money for the purchase of materials to protect the houses of over ten thousand (10,000) Guatemalans living in the unstable landfill of Guatemala City. We have continued our involvement with Potter’s House, and recently, became the proud sponsor of a first grade classroom. Our sponsorship includes the donation of school uniforms, school materials and nutritious meals throughout the school year. For more information, please visit www.pottershouse.org.gt.

When Hurricane Stan struck Guatemala and the Central American region in October 2005, it brought severe flooding and landslides to the area. Those affected by the disaster were in urgent need of food, water, and shelter. We responded immediately with a large donation of canned goods to the shelters in both Guatemala and El Salvador. In response, the Guatemalan government recognized our company for its generous donation and help for those in need.

In 2006, we partnered with the Guatemalan organization Manos de Amor to raise money for the construction of medical stations, medical supplies and community health programs in areas of Guatemala with restricted access to medical attention. Specifically, we donated a container with medical equipment as well as a medical team to the hospital in Santiago Atitlan.

Also in 2006, we became involved with FotoKids (Fundacion de ninos artistas Guatemala) in Guatemala. Fotokids aims to teach kids in poorer areas of Guatemala skills in manual and digital photography, giving them the chance to develop themselves artistically. Village Harvest and Otis McAllister continually seeks new opportunities to give back to the communities that support us. We believe we have a responsibility to the communities we serve and are committed to the expansion of our charitable interests.
